May is Mental Health Awareness Month! David Hymow May is Mental Health Awareness Month! David Hymowitz is a licensed social worker specializing in mental health, chemical dependency, crisis intervention and community education for over 30 years. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Katie Swanson, David has become the Mental Health Awareness Facilitator at Bethany House and mental health is at the forefront of our work with our guests. David provides regular workshops to our guests and staff on such mental health matters like: -how to manage stress -practicing self-care -creating healthy boundaries -building strong connections -communicating clearly The goal of the program is to give our guests and staff a toolbox of exercises to help them navigate their past trauma as well as deal through current and future mental health challenges in a constructive, healthy manner. Our guests and staff have come to eagerly anticipate David’s workshops and several of our guests have opened themselves up to therapy thanks to his reassurance. It is true that “Mental health is not a destination, but a process.
