Rachel, an 8 year old from Valley Stream, came up Rachel, an 8 year old from Valley Stream, came up with an idea to have her family sponsor her summer reading and she would use the funds to purchase a fun book with a cute little stuffed animal buddy to donate to those who may not have easy access to books. Her family was happy to participate, donating $1 per picture book and $5-$8 per chapter book. To their delight- Rachel read 54 books this summer, raising over $100! Thanks to Rachel, our children received a bin filled with 24 carefully-wrapped “Books & Buddies.” RACHEL READS IT FORWARD so others can too! When a woman and her children arrive at Bethany Ho When a woman and her children arrive at Bethany House, they are often carrying a heavy burden—not just the weight of their belongings, but the overwhelming trauma and instability of homelessness. Government funding provides the necessary structure to offer temporary safety to our guests, but basic survival is not our goal. The truth is, government funding “keeps the lights on,” but your generosity ignites the spark of change inside every guest. It is because of you—our dedicated supporters—that we are able to do so much more than offer temporary shelter. Your donations fund the transformative programs that allow our guests to address their trauma, rebuild their lives and achieve lasting self-sufficiency. Every dollar you contribute directly fuels the strategies designed to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness, often passed down through generations. Your support means we can provide: Job Readiness & Training- Customized career coaching and skill-building workshops that assist in obtaining living-wage employment. Educational Support- Resources for pursuing GEDs, college courses, or vocational certifications, opening doors to new futures. We partner with Molloy University and other non-profit organizations to bring the best educational support to the women and children we serve. Therapeutic Services- Trauma-informed counseling and mental health services, helping women heal. For the children, therapy is often life changing. Life Skills and Financial Literacy- Our programs support the development of healthy habits through a combination of nutrition education, yoga, and meditation. We also emphasize creative expression and personal fulfillment by offering hobby-based activities such as book clubs, vision-board creation sessions, and drum circles that build connection and confidence. These essential services transform a temporary stop into a permanent path forward. Meet Island Beach Girl Scout Troop 2486, the maste Meet Island Beach Girl Scout Troop 2486, the masterminds behind a new cookbook, featuring video recipe tutorials for guests at Bethany House. The troop also spearheaded an impactful community drive for needed supplies and grocery gift cards, with Island Park Public Library serving as the drop-off location. The grand finale was a taste-testing event at the library, featuring dishes from their cookbook. This impressive endeavor was led by 11th graders from Long Beach High School. Our guests are excited to try out some of these delicious recipes. Instead of just gifts for her growing family, she requested that her incredible community of family and friends brought extra packages of diapers to donate to the families starting fresh at Bethany House.
